Great post. Glad to read others who are thinking about this similarly to how I am. It’s harder than ever to have internet boundaries. In the past, you would have a short 30-min news show that went over some pretty basic stuff in very little time. Maybe also a newspaper or two with small, specific stories (and none of this had any comments!). Today, you can, quite literally, spend your entire day consuming news. Do any of us even remember what happened last week? Whether intentional or not, I think constant news cycles program our subconscious, since there’s no way you can retain everything in immediate consciousness. I think we can all agree that the cycles are largely negative, unimportant, and aggravating.

I try to remind myself “I don’t have time for this” when I get caught up in intense consumption of bottomless internet news. The thought isn’t just about literal time, it’s because it’s not something I want to consume my life. Lastly, I should note, few people, if any, seem to be miserable and negative if they unplug from the news/social media cycle. We all need the detox, if only to remember who we once were.
