I am on this journey now and tracking my calories has kept me in a comfortable deficit. By counting all of my calories on an app I can see that I was consistently overeating before. Now when I want ice cream or chips, I can see how much I can have and still be in a deficit, and I am actually eating one serving size now, which is still enough to be satisfying.
It’s very true what you say about calories, we really need to start there, but it isn’t the be-all end-all because our body needs a wide range of nutrients available in a variety of foods.
