We get in our own way. I also overemphasize how much I should get from my reading and it distracts and slows me down instead of adds to my experience. Also, we are rarely taught, if anyone knows, what to do with knowledge once we have it, especially in an age where there is too much information about everything (read Oranges by John McPhee for a better understanding of this).
